Common questions

Can nutrition really lower HbA1c?

For many people with type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, consistent changes to carbohydrate quality, portions and meal timing — together with activity and prescribed medication — can meaningfully improve HbA1c. Results differ from person to person, which is why progress is tracked with repeat lab tests.

Do I have to stop eating bread and rice?

Not necessarily. The plan focuses on the type, amount and timing of carbohydrates and on what they are eaten with. Most patients keep familiar foods in adjusted portions.

Should I stop my diabetes medication?

No. Never change or stop medication without your treating doctor. Nutrition care works alongside your medical treatment, and any medication changes are your physician’s decision.
